Anniversary of disappearance of Barway Collins observed
It's been nearly two years since Barway Collins went missing from his Crystal home. Ten year old Barway was eventually found in the Mississippi River. He was killed by his father.

Video of Barway sitting on a school bus, talking with his friends is the last time he was seen. You can hear him say, "There's my Dad."

He went missing March 18th, 2015, shortly after getting off the bus. For weeks, volunteers and law enforcement officials frantically searched by foot and boat.

"It was very emotional," said Crystal Police Chief Stephanie Revering.  "Every single day that he was missing, our department was trying to find him."

Chief Revering says she always knew Barway's father, Pierre Collins wasn't telling the truth. "From the beginning that we talked to him he was always a suspect. He was untruthful the entire time of the process."

On April 11th, 2015, volunteers found Barway's body in the murky waters of the Mississippi.

"It was horrible. It was a horrible day to get the call that his body was found in the river," said Chief Revering.

Electronic evidence put Pierre at the scene. He was arrested and later found guilty of second degree murder.
Investigator Julie Severson and Lt. Derrick Hacker were the lead investigators on the case. Although it's been almost two years, both Severson and Hacker have pictures of Barway on their desks.

"The case had a significant impact for all of us working on it and throughout the process of the investigation I felt like we really got to know him, by learning more about him and I think it's important that we always do remember him," said Detective Severson.

The department is choosing to honor Barway by remembering his smile,  instead of the horrific details that lead to his death.

"You don't see something like this very often and we've grown as a department and we're definitely closer because of it," explained Revering.

Meanwhile, Barway's biological mom, Louise Karluah, is now living in Minnesota with her 3-year-old son. Karluah recently visited the Crystal Police Department. Chief Revering says it was nice to see her smile again.

A memorial service for Barway will be held on Saturday, March 18th, 2 p.m, at Glen Haven Memoiral Garden in Crystal.
