Metro Blue Line (Bottineau) LRT reaches 60% design completion
A milestone has been reached for the Metro Blue Line Extension project as light rail planners say they've completed 60 percent of the design and engineering work for the 13-mile light rail line from Minneapolis to Brooklyn Park.

The light rail line would run through Robbinsdale, Crystal and Golden Valley as it heads north to Brooklyn Park. A new video was recently released showing what the Golden Valley Road LRT station could look like.

As planners mark the 60 percent milestone on design and engineering, open houses will be held this week in Robbinsdale, Golden Valley and Crystal, so residents have a chance to see how the new light rail line will affect their neighborhoods and also offer input on design details going forward. Open house opportunities will also be held in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park as well.

Dan Soler, project director for the Metro Blue Line Extension said the open houses allow residents a chance to ask questions and offer feedback.

"There is still a number of things we're looking for input on as we go from 60 percent to 90 percent [planning]," said Soler. "For example, where are we going to have street lighting and what's the style going to be? Is it going to be pedestrian lighting and roadway lighting, what kind of trees and landscaping are going to go in along the boulevards? And on stations, some of the final issues of what the final colors and elements are on the station platforms."

The first open house on the Metro Blue Line Extension will be held Monday, March 20, at Robbinsdale City Hall from 4:30 p.m to 7 p.m. For more information on the times and locations of the open houses, visit metrocouncil.org

Construction on the $1.536 billion Blue Line Extension is expected to run from 2018 - 2021.
