North Hennepin Community College offers 4-year degrees
When it comes to offering fitness tips and advice, Sheila Manelli's passion for fitness shines. The Maple Grove personal trainer already has a two-year degree from North Hennepin Community College, but she's part of the first wave of students to pursue a four year degree in exercise science at the campus from Southwest Minnesota State.

"I was going to be done with the two-year degree, but when I heard about the corporate wellness degree from Southwest Minnesota State, I was on top of it. It was a perfect fit," says Manelli.

With two kids and a life in Maple Grove, she wasn't willing to relocate to go to school and she insists online classes aren’t the right fit. However, getting a bachelor's degree by attending classes at North Hennepin was something she could do.

North Hennepin Community College currently offers 12 bachelor degrees in fields ranging from business to nursing to construction management and they hope to increase that number in the future.

"It's an opportunity for students to be able to start their degree here and remain on campus and streamline their education to a bachelor’s degree," says Doris Hill, interim vice president of academic affairs at North Hennepin. "[Students] need to work and support their families, but we can support their education by having partnerships here."

Partnerships include Bemidji State, Bethel University, Metropolitan State, MSU-Moorhead, Southwest State, and St. Cloud State. Officials at North Hennepin hope to offer masters degree options in the future.
