Maple Grove hoping to challenge for state again in boys hockey
Maple Grove got a taste of the state tournament last season and they'd like to get that experience again.

The Crimson lost 14 seniors to graduation, so it may take some time to gel this winter. Captains Tyler Borsch and Ryan Brandt are back on defense, along with Matthew Jaglo up front.

Sophomore goalie Ethan Haider was very good last season and should be one of the stronger netminders in the Northwest Suburban Conference.

Juniors Trevor Kukkonen and Tyler Kostelecky played regularly as sophomores and will be counted on to score this season.

Maple Grove finished second in the CCX Media Turkey Trot tournament over the weekend. They tied host Wayzata in the semifinals, advancing with a win in the shootout.

The Crimson then lost 6-2 to top-ranked Edina in the final. Maple Grove's home opener is Thursday against Totino-Grace.
