Three of the four teams in the CCX Media Turkey Trot boys hockey tournament are in the top 10 in the Class AA rankings to start the season.
That includes the No. 1-ranked Edina Hornets, who served notice that they will be tough to beat this season. After thumping No. 6-ranked Holy Family 7-0 in the semifinal round, Edina met Maple Grove for the championship Saturday night.
Maple Grove was badly outshot by host Wayzata in the semifinals, but the teams were tied 3-3 after regulation and overtime and the Crimson won in a shootout.
In the title game, Maple Grove looked to play a similar game, getting good goal tending from sophomore Ethan Haider and cashing in when they got chances.
For two periods, it worked pretty well. Edina controlled the game but had just a 3-2 lead after two. That changed in a hurry early in the third period as the Hornets scored three times in a span of 2:37 to pull away for a 6-2 win.
It's the seventh time that Edina has won the Turkey Trot tournament.
In the third place game, Holy Family bounced back from the loss to Edina with an impressive 5-1 win over Wayzata.
