The crack of the bat was heard at the 13th annual Wood Bat Little League tournament in Robbinsdale and St. Louis Park. Plymouth-New Hope's 11-year-old all-stars knocked off some older teams on the way to the championship game of the 11-12 year old tournament Sunday afternoon.
PNH scored the first three runs of the game in the championship, but they couldn't hold off the attack of the Coon Rapids-Andover Black team. CRA scored five runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth on the way to a 10-4 win.
Robbinsdale beat Golden Valley in the 10-year-old final. St. Louis Park won the 9-year-old division.
The tournament was also a fundraiser for the Baseball in Benin project. About $10,000 was raised to aid in the effort to bring baseball to the small West African nation, and baseball equipment that was donated by participating teams will be shipped to Benin.
