Maple Grove survives tough test from Rogers
Many basketball fans thought of Maple Grove as a near lock to reach the state class AAAA boys basketball tournament this season.

The Crimson beat Rogers by 27 points in their first game of the season, but the rematch was a much different story.

Maple Grove jumped out to a 13-2 lead to start the game, but Rogers battled back and trailed 32-31 at halftime.

The Royals took the lead several times in the second half, and they had a 56-52 lead with five minutes left.

Maple Grove's senior trio of Jack Hutchison, Tywhon Pickford, and Brad Davison came through with big baskets to put the Crimson back in front for good as they held on for a 69-64 win.

Maple Grove will enter the state tournament with a 27-2 record.

Davison had 27 points and Hutchison 15 to lead the Crimson.

Matt Carik was 10-for-10 from the free throw line and had 18 points to lead Rogers.
