Expert: Job market "best in years" for new graduates
Whether it's landing that first summer job or entering the workforce as a new college graduate, finding a job is tough work, but professionals in the employment services industry say 2017 could be the best job market for recent graduates in years.

According to a survey from CareerBuilder, 74 percent of employers say they plan to hire recent graduates this year, up from 67 percent last year.

Ted Chalupsky, CEO of The Right Staff in Maple Grove, a professional employment services firm, says the outlook is especially promising for young adults who can communicate key qualities and skills to prospective employers.

"There are three qualities that potential employers are looking for: the candidate should tell the employer, 'I'm hard working, I'm a quick learner, and I'm very trustworthy, and my references will bear this out,'" said Chalupsky.

Those qualities in a job applicant must also be accompanied by a good strong resume and strong LinkedIn profile.

"Even at the high school or college level, it's good to be putting together a good LinkedIn profile out there because you're going to be ahead of 95 percent of people in that age range, if you do that," said Chalupsky.

When it comes to skills, Chalupsky says there are three key ones employers are looking for in today's market and at the very top of the list is communication skills, followed by teamwork and technical skills.

"You can have strong technical skills, but if you can't communicate with people or if you can't play in the sandbox with the other people, odds are it's not going to work for a very good job for you," said Chalupsky.

And finally, don't sell yourself short when you consider the skills and abilities you've learned through work, activities and involvement.

"Approach potential employers and let them know, 'look, this is my background, this is who I am, I would be a good bet for you," said Chalupsky. "Don't be shy about it, I think too many people are negative about themselves, but yet they don't realize really what qualities they have."

Some of the hottest industries right now for job seekers include: accounting, sales, technology and healthcare.
